Help my father recover from his stroke (read all 82 entries…)
Dad came out of hospital today 5 months ago

He’s looking good apparently but mum has a lot of catching up to do as his medication list has significantly changed.

He is also having to retrain his bladder (as he was catheterised – this always happens) as it’s easy to get lazy when you’re in hospital and don’t have to hold it in to get to the toilet safely. Poor mum!

At least that is now over and things can start getting a little more back to normal in their house.

I'm so glad he's out!

I hope all the recovery fronts are proceeding well. Best wishes to both your parents.

My dad’s heart rate hasn’t stabilized since the new valve was put in, so he’s still in hospital. Next week I may be going to the hospital (in Ohio) to accompany him there, instead of to his home (in Arkansas) as we had expected. Fortunately no airplane tickets are involved.

Sorry about your dad still

being in the hospital, Ruth. Hope all will be stabilized soon!

Hugs. :)

Thank you, Jessy

The doctors are still upbeat, but when his heart is actually stopping for up to 4 seconds at a time, it has to be a bit scary for him. He’s really, really healthy (his 80th-birthday gift last year was a bike, & he rides all the time), so he’s not used to this fragility.

I’m looking forward to being with him in just a few days.

Sorry to hear he's not out yet

Must be so frustrating for him (and inconvenient for you too). The heart can be such a sensitive organ.

It will be better for you to actually see him I bet rather than just hearing how he’s doing.

I hope his recovery is good so that he can ride his bike a little bit this summer.

Hope he’s out before you know it

Thanks, dear PH

More news arrived just now, as three electrophysiologists came to check up on him & confer. It looks as if he’ll be able to go home to Arkansas on Friday after all. The pauses have all been shorter than 5 seconds, which is the length of pause that would make them call for a pacemaker implant. And he’ll be checking in with his Arkansas doctor regularly.

As I’m sure you had to keep saying as your father & father-in-law were in hospital simultaneously, we shall have to see!

That is good news

I’m pleased to hear that the doctors feel he’s well enough to go home.

It’s so much nicer to complete the recovery in your own home than in a ward with all the machines going bleep all the bleeping time.

Jessy wishes you a merry Christmas

Glad he's out and okay . . .

and I’m sure that lazy bladder will be an industrious bladder in short order!

QuakerMel is simplifying

How is he adjusting?

It’s been two weeks now, how are your mum and dad adapting to the new way of things?

Our prayers are with you

Wishing that each day brings your renewed strength, brighter times, happier you.

There is no remedy like optimism, no encouragement so immense, and no stimulant so dominant as belief of a better tomorrow.

May health n happiness be for you n your family always.

He's a trooper

Dad’s recovered so well from his op. He’s much healthier than he was before he went into hospital.
