Mollie’s advice and applied for a credit card that will earn me mileage rewards. After carefully reading through the account provisions, I think it’s just what I need – there is no annual fee (a big deal for me), the miles can apply to different airlines without a lot of restrictions, etc. So instead of using my personal card that accumulates a teensy bit of cash to go to the grandkids’ 529 accounts (which have tanked anyway), I’ll start using this one when it arrives.

I’ve also stashed away tiny bits of cash, but the lack of bonuses and unexpected expenses are not making that easy. This morning I had to hitch a ride with a co-worker, since my garage door opener broke with my car still inside! I hope that won’t be too expensive to fix …

Wooo!

I use mine for everything, and the points really add up. Groceries, clothing, entertainment, etc.

I pay it off monthly so I don’t get in over my head and incur interest charges.

Look for opportunities for “double points” too. They happen along.

Hope you get your ticket to Paris/Italy soon, NN!

Yes,

for decades I’ve used “cash back” cards for almost everything I buy, and almost always pay the balance every month, so as not to incur that nasty interest. But I decided I really liked your idea of finding a card that would give me travel benefits instead.

DoubleN has gotten 4 cheers on this entry.
