Get a long-term job in journalism (read all 35 entries…)
I've got at least one more month of work now 4 months ago

I will just be filling in for someone who’s on vacation, so that it will probably just be the 4 weeks. But it’s in culture. Ahh. 4 weeks of cultural bliss. ;) Hopefully someone else will need a holiday or something after that.

Another month will help – and maybe they will extend it. Paws crossed!!!

Thank you!

I managed to get an extra week too today, by simply showing up to work one week early. ;) I just assumed I was starting today, but then re-read the message from the editor in chief and realized I’m supposed to start next week. So I told the culture editor, and he said “of course we need you this week too, you have to stay and work this week”. Ahh. One more week of cultural bliss. Every week counts.
Plus, the timing is excellent. All the book publishers present their autumn lists to the press these upcomming weeks, which means I get to go around to press conferences and pick up free books. Yay!

hurrah!

really pleased to hear that Stine! and in the culture section too, your fave ;)

It really is lovely

to be back in the culture section. Plus, there’s an added bonus: today, to my huge delight, I got to pick up my computer and move to a new desk in the culture section, at a reasonably safe distance from hiccup and mr talks-to-himself!! Ahhhh! The peace! I’m sure the entire world can hear hiccup clearing his throat and coughing every 3 seconds, but at least I don’t think I’ll hear the hiccup sounds. (he wasn’t there today, so I didn’t get to check).

I’m sure some people found it a bit strange that I picked up and moved to a different part of the office the second I started working in culture again. I’m s short term temp again now, and most temps just pick a desk wherever and stay there, it doesn’t make sense to move around every time we start working for a different section of the paper for a few days or weeks. I hope the weekend people weren’t offended. But I just couldn’t let an opportunity to get away from the 2 most annoying people in the whole workplace slip away from me! Ahh.

no more hiccup!

and no more mr talks-to-himself! What a great way to start your new position, you lucky thing! I bet that great celebration ensued.

Mind you, the other day my henchperson and I were in a meeting in a room about a mile down the corridor and we could hear the DP doing her trademark dinosaur sneeze. The walls of the entire office resounded with the terrible noise ;) I hope hiccup’s hiccuping doesn’t have some weird resounding frequency – at least you won’t be right next to it and having to put up that and with his annoying stories any more.

It's pure freedom!

Not having to deal with bloody hiccup anymore! And I doubt he will generally be able to listen in on my conversations with others from where he sits. So no more hiccup suddenly jumping up from his seat interrupting conversations saying idiotic things such as “You’re vegetarian and don’t eat fish? But you can’t say that! There are some vegetarians who eat fish, so ergo vegetarians have to eat fish!”. Ahhh. No more hiccup. Of course he’ll still be lurking around the place, probably interrupting conversations every now and then, but not as often since he won’t hear all of them. Ahh.

that reminds me

of the old joke about a “vegetarian” who eats fish – they’re called a fish-and-chipocrite groan ;)
