Classmates from...well, not a nice place. 4 months ago

So I’m assigned to do a little project with six of my classmates, to help map out a question. To me the answer is obvious. I state it simply and politely. The six of them start bullying me saying it is the worse answer ever, and they have the right one (which is the dumbest thing, makes no sense). They are absolutely belligerent and completely dismiss me and ignore me as they plot out their presentation.

I then politely point out that their numbers are wrong. Same response. Now they are rolling their eyes at each other and openly mocking me.

The teacher then comes over and I ask about my answer, as she says to them maybe, just maybe, they should listen to me. They still ignore me, insisting they are right. I get out the books and show them, but nooooo…..

...and I say “we both have valid points, I suggest we present both our views.” Completely voted down. 6 to 1.

So today is the presentation. Incredibly, they want me to give it, announcing it at the last second. That would be interesting as they would not show me their work before, as I was pushed out the loop. (I have given two really decent presentations before, so I guess they thought I should just do this by osmosis.) I look right at the leader of this mess, and say “Oh no, I don’t agree, you all present it, as you understand it and believe in it.” Of course this gets some more snarky responses. When our time comes, they say nothing. These people who insisted I was an idiot and bullied me couldn’t say a freakin’ thing when their butts were on the line. Nothing. I just sat there too.

That blessed teacher, whom I believe knows how badly I’m getting bullied by this class, then just starts saying what the answers are.

And I am exactly right. Exactly. Right. They are wrong, wrong, wrong. Of course they don’t say a thing. Since saying “I told you so” isn’t all that classy, I don’t say it.

But I sure am thinking it…

...as once again I eat lunch alone and study.

RagazzaRaffinata One day at a time.

Hang in there Slayne. Sounds like you are doing great learning and understanding the material, and also handling the classroom personalities the best you can. :)

Boy I missed most of this

Q: are your classmates younger than you? (they definitely are dumber than you…)

I remember how I hated doing group project work with me class mates in occupational therapy school, but it never was as bad as what you describe.

Reading about it makes glow and me feel proud of you, but actually going through it… Have big hugs and keep the fire burning!

Thank you =)

Many are younger than me, but not all. And even when I was younger, I was not like them. I just think they speak a different emotional language than me is the best way to state it. I do qualify for Mensa, so maybe it is an I.Q. thing, too. But I have to admit some of them pick up on things I don’t, so in certain ways they are intelligent too.

The older I get, the more I realize that I do follow different gods than most folks. I just think, and act different. This doesn’t make me better or worse, it just is. I learn more and more than standing outside and being myself while being pleasant works best. A lot of my goals here at 43T is about learning how to do that well.

As always, thank you for your kindness and support, and I am so glad we are friends both here and on the other board.

ah

they might be intelligent, too, but they’re still dumb coz apparently they aren’t living in reality.

S/o living in reality checks information for its value and not dismisses is for some dumb social prejudice.
And s/o who lives in reality sees people for what they are and doesn’t succumb to any dumb social games.
I don’t know, of course, but this seems to me a game of ‘being popular’.
And that, of course, needs s/o to be unpopular, so they think they shine against you as the background.

Oh well, it’s you who is shining.

And folks are going to school to learn; that’s what they should do.

I’m not being kind, I’m being a bit upset, coz I was the arsehole of my classes during almost all my school days. It’s not nice.

In occupational school I was among the oldest, and me not coming from Bavaria, not speaking dialect, put some in awe, I think. I actually was quite popular, and I know that I have done some good things for my class, integrating, interpreting, hehe, and amusing people. <|8)

A pity your class misses that by fearing you and being envious. Stupid.

P.S. And the other board is greatly benefiting from your input, me dear! <|8)

jansu Happy New Year.

Let's hope

that they learned something from this too! You did exactly the right thing and well done for not allowing them to bully you into giving the presentation!

Thanks

I’ve wondered exactly that—sometimes I think that my kindness is mistaken for weakness, and they learned a little something about the big difference between the two.

So maybe they learned something, I have noticed they seem to be a tad more respectful of me since this event.
