Tarrador is going to make May MARVELOUS!

Nurture and tend to our foundling squirrel until it reaches squirrely independence (read all 8 entries…)
Toofers!

Our little foundling continues his progress. He has started cutting teeth (toofers) and yesterday his little ears suddenly popped out. They had been little bumps on a bumpy head. Fur is getting a little thicker and you should hear the fuss he makes when the food doesn’t come fast enough! His eyes haven’t opened yet (another 2 weeks, we think)but he is sensitive to light. He still sleeps most of the time. He will crawl around a little but is such a squirmy thing it is no mystery he fell out of his nest.

We have a strict “no namiming” policy on critters for the first two weeks, but I think soon we are going to have to contemplate one.

I 've done something like this...

A few summers ago we found a very young, but fully hairy, baby squirrel in my strawberry patch, enjoying an afternoon snack. He was so adorable and sweet, but was obviously lost. He spent the afternoon there and by night fall was still hanging out.

My intuition told me he wouldn’t make it through the night, so we scooped him up, took him inside and made a cozy place for him to spend the night…

Long story short, he stayed with us for a couple months, played hide and seek with the family (always found the hider), loved to be apart of everything, was our daily entertainment, and fell madly and deeply in love with me ;)

Slowly but surely, he was able to be released back into the wild. After he permanently went back outdoors, he would hang out in our Oak tree. Whenever he saw me, he would scamper down a branch and out onto my arm, running up the length of my arm, up into the nape of my neck and underneath my hair, where he always liked to rest.

It was a very endearing and rewarding experience. I wish you the same…
I hope all goes well….

P.S. You may want to check, but, I think he may never be able to be released. He wouldn’t have the necessary survival skills.

Tarrador is going to make May MARVELOUS!

This has been a concern...

of ours. We know we cannot release him until the spring because he has no foraging knowledge. S. has been diligently reading up on all the information she can gather regarding re-introducing urban animals back into the wild. Our hope is that we can release him at some point and his natural instincts will prevail.

LifeRenewed is blessed.....

It is a nice hope...

i’d like to read up on it and see if it’s possible.

Tarrador has gotten 4 cheers on this entry.
