49 Montana

I spent last night in Montana and had a wonderful meeting with our own Lin who was a wonderful tour guide of Whitefish Montana. This is a gorgeous town that I would love to spend more time in. It reminds me of Shelly as being a creative place that blossoms with energy. I’ll have to bring her here sometime.

I’ll be exploring more of the state today, but only on the western side. With this state visited, I only have Hawaii left. I’m debating running a marathon there to cap off this goal. Of course I’m also very tempted to see Mahinui’s treehouse too when I go there.

Comments:

Mary Hawkins is ignoring cheers on this site for now. I still like you!

Cool!

You’re last two states are gorgeous ones then…

Disenchanted

I’m not sure I like Montana anymore. I had bought a huckleberry shake at Mrs. Spoonover’s and was walking around with it while shopping. There were two big straws and a spoon, but no lid. Because stores don’t trust people not to spill, I had to leave my shake outside. It was fine at the first store, but after the second store when I sucked up the last of it, I got something extra. It was a hornet or wasp or bee of some sort. Couldn’t really tell for sure since I bit it when it stung my tongue. As a paramedic I knew how to take care of it as my lips and cheek began to turn numb. No respiratory involvement, so I didn’t need to seek a hospital.

Later I stopped to pick up a hitchhiker who turned me down because I wasn’t going far enough for him. I would’ve thought that 30 miles farther is better than sitting there not moving myself, but I guess in Montana things are different.

ow, ow, ow!

That’s so unfair!

A huckleberry shake sounds delicious though…but I doubt you’ll ever want one again… :(

What IS the right thing to do for a wasp or hornet sting?

Sting Treatment

Clean the area with soap and water, and you can use an ice pack on it. Don’t put ice or an ice pack directly on the skin though. If there is hives or swelling, you can use Benadryl (or generic diphenhydramine) to treat the allergic reaction. If this doesn’t relieve it then you need to seek emergency care at a hospital or doctor’s office. Call 911 and report an anaphylactic reaction to a sting so that they dispatch an ALS service so you can get SQ epi or IV diphenhydramine before you go into shock or respiratory arrest.

wren You'll not see nothing like the mighty wren!

Don't give up on Montana!

It was just having an off day.

Ouch!

Are you okay? Swollen and talking funny? Feel better soon!

Careful picking up hitchhikers, Todd. Though sheesh, they are picky these days, aren’t they?

OMG! This is so awful!

Guess you’ll never forget your visit here. Not in a good way. :(

I hope you are ok!

The bees have been very aggressive this year. My friend was stung 5 times on her hand and arm at the fair when she grabbed her soft drink. She did end up going to the hospital.

I’m sorry I would never have thought to tell you about that.

Not in defense of rudeness but there is an attitude here that the people have adopted that is different from the rest of the world. Understanding them has been one of my trials living here. :)

p.s. I would love to visit Shelly sometime! :)

Tarrador rising...

I appreciate your view...

about how different areas of the country have adopted different attitudes with no perception of rudness. As a life long resident of the manner-conscious and loquacious South, the longest year of my life was the 6 months I spent in Wyoming. After a few hurt feelings and some darn-near brawls, I came to understand that it just their way, no harm meant.

Texas Lin Live with Passion!

I understand exactly what you are saying~

People here are totally different than Texans. They don’t mind that at all. LOL

Rudeness

The hitchhiker wasn’t rude at all, and was quite thankful that I stopped. I just don’t agree with his philosophy of passing up a bird in the hand for two in the bush.

I was surprised to see two more hitchhikers on I-90, but they were on the far right while i was four lanes over in the far left and didn’t have a chance to swing over and pick them up. In PA, NY and OH no pedestrians are allowed on interstates so I wasn’t expecting hikers to be on it in MT.

Texas Lin Live with Passion!

LOL I agree with you

about his philosophy. It was nice of you to stop.

Postcard

Thanks for the postcard from your trip! Let me know next time you visit the Southeast.

You're Welcome

I have no plans to return to the southeast any time soon, but I will definitely let you know if I do. Look for more postcards this week as I sent you more than one card to help you with your state postcard goal.
