figure out my future (read all 4 entries…)

For a countless times I have been told that I could make a good academician.

Being a student for a looong time, and still staying at the school even after graduating all those grad schools sounds like a right thing to do for me.

But academic life is really really challenging, and my GPA is not that high yet, even I finally managed a GPA that is over 3.00

And am I ambitious and patient enough to carry the burden of academic life?

I’d love to, if I could. But here in METU, being an academician thing is like an unrealistic fantasy most of the times. Really tough.

I’m an ambitious person in some ways of mine, but I’m not a competitive one.

I’ve got a very curious nature,I like learning on my own and I believe that I’m a fast learner.

But, really, is this enough? And more importantly, Is it worth it?

Yes.

A good education is ALWAYS worth it, even if it’s sometimes tough.

you are right.

I agree with that. I’ll be getting that good education no matter what happens.

But my concern is, being an academician requires a lot more than getting only good education. (At least here) You know… stuff like, being have to lick someone’s ass, bearing all those intrigues in academic life and so on.

I completely forgot about the fact that whole life and world is about those things :z

You know what…You’ve actually re-enlightened me.

I’m gonna have to lick asses high or low, no matter what kind of area I work. So why not letting this area be at least something I give a shit?

it is worth it, and I’d say that as long as you’re motivated and know that you’re learning, it’s also enough. Don’t get too caught up with grades, I know it’s hard, but they don’t tell the whole truth. What truly matters is what you’ve learned and how you use that knowledge in the future. :) You can do it. ♥

I also think it is worth it. And you are an ambitious person, so I know you are going to get there! I think ambition is the most important thing you should have for academic life and from your post I can see you have plenty of it :). The licking asses part sucks, but I think you’ll be able to handle it ;).

Yes I feel we think pretty much the same about this. Your concerns about the academic life seem so familiar and I have my doubts about it from time to time, but in the end, I think it is worth it!
