I go to a public school system, and who you get is who you get. But even then there are many things that separate good teachers from great teachers. 3 being:

1. They teach us to be innovative people early in life.
2. They make learning funner than needed.
3. They really do believe in each and every one of their students, not just the ‘smart’ people in the class and then pretend to like ‘the rest of us’. It’s empowering.
