Don’t model nude for artists!
My partner modeled nude for art classes and I feel violated. Frankly I think he put himself and us at risk doing this. Alot of people wonder what other people’s bodies are like, and what it might be like to engage them, one way or another: to spy on them through works of art affords a certain vicarious thrill of relationship. Frankly I’m not into sharing my partner as someones elses fantasy. Distribution of the art cannot be controlled, causing the models, as well as their families and personal relationships, to suffer. Hypothetically what would it be like for you as model to have those pictures published on the net, or in the paper, or sent to your family? Is it possible that you could be placing yourself at risk of stalking? There are so many other risks to consider in this action. Other questions I have are what would motivate a model? Your selling viewing your body for money, is this to unconsciously shame yourself thereby reinforcing a sense of inferiority; does that over time metamorphose into esteem building? If this is the case surely there are safer methods of esteem building. Do models dissociate? Does a fantasy or erotic component develop for the model? Is this an action you would comfortably share with anyone? If not, why do something you may feel the need to hide? I would also be interested to see a study on whether the majority of models are victims of one sort or another. Is there anyone out there who has modeled who is a victim willing to stand up and be counted? Are these victims acting out? I’m curious from the perspective of why would someone put themselves at such a risk for money? As a partner the short and long term consequences are scary. Think about it, but feed back would be cool.
