To say that things have taken a roundabout turn is almost an under-statement. But if I dare say so, things are looking pretty rosy at the moment.
Since my last entry (and seemingly neurotic breakdown), the following has taken place:
- We did meet that Monday and he gave me a copy of his newly-published book. But I was such a control freak and being super-conscious the whole time, I didn’t really enjoy the moment. When I called my best girlfriend, she berated me for taking it all too seriously too soon. Yes.. the wake-up call was duly noted. Promised to be less manic the next time, though wasn’t sure there was gonna be a next time then.
- That Sunday, we met again at the writing workshop. He came with his sister and cousin. We spent time over lunch, then coffee after the class ended. I had fun and got to know his sister a bit. Things went really well and I actually learnt loads of new things that day.
- We met on Tuesday since we agreed to collaborate on my first novel (tactical maneuvering on my side, oh well.. I wanted to be proactive). He signed the copy of the book he gave me. We shared ideas on character development and pacing of the storyline. I teased him that I may need to come up with more excuses for us to meet. He just laughed and joked about being traumatised by such frequent encounters. Whatever.. :p
- We’ve been writing emails to each other and swapping text messages almost everyday up to Friday. I wanted to ask him something, so I called him (this is a first, the previous ones don’t count since at the time, I was not crushing this badly over him). We talked about the book then about other stuff. The conversation lasted for about half an hour. I went to sleep that night pretty much on cloud nine.
So yeah.. pretty a dramatic turn of events, but all good! I am keeping my fingers crossed and playing it as cool as I possibly can (which is really hard because I often prefer being direct). But I don’t want to scare him off and he’s been pretty receptive to my (proactive but well-concealed) advances lately. This has been going on so well that it’s actually pretty scary. In a good way, of course. ;-)
