Thanks-getting 2 months ago

Before we can do all the Thanksgiving stuff there is a lot of Thanks-getting that needs to be done!

So what do we need to get to make the Thanksgiving meal complete?

Comments:

Thanks-getting

~Most definitely a spiral sliced ham from Honey Baked Hams.
~Potaoes, milk and REAL Butter for mashed potatoes.
~Sausage, cheese & Bisquick…to make sausage balls so we can munch on something tasty while the meal is cooking.
~Cornmeal, celery, chicken broth & sage which will make some awesome Dressing.
~A turtle cheescake from Sam’s
~ Greenbeans, Cream of ‘shroom soup, onions for green bean casserole.
~ Cider for the little ones, Chardonnay & Merlot for the grown ups
~Turkey
~Chex Mix ingredients….gotta have something to munch on while watching football after the main meal.
~various veggies & Knorr vegetable dip mix
~ Gravy for potatoes and Dressing but someone else will have to make that, I suck at it. ;(
~ The salad I make with cranberries that everyone always requests.

How's that green bean

casserole? I’ve always wanted to try it. But, of course, knowing your taste, it’s got to be excellent. :D

Joey cant put ENOUGH distance between himself and this godawful year...

oh my god Artie...

Green bean casserole is the best part of the thanksgiving menu!!. Go. Right now, I mean it, go. Go to the store, buy the supplies (cream of something soup, green beans, and french fried onions,) and the cook it, and once you have, cook it again, only this time ArteFye it so that it’s some amazing super green bean smogasborg of a casserole. Then post pictures. :)

ArteFyed Green Bean Casserole

HEAR! HEAR! Tons of Cheers!

Tee hee. :D:D

Aww.. [blush]

ArteFye. :D I love it!

I sure do. Alright, green bean casserole it is.

Oh, oh!

That Knorr spinach dip is amazing!!

Still going through the list.. :)

Can you share the cranberry salad? I love cranberries!

Ok, hold your horses

I’m dying my hair. Do you want me to fry my tresses? Give me 10 more minutes to wash this stuff out and then I will be my awesome “natural” blonde self and I will share thanks-getting recipes. :D (You really caught me, this time.)

LOL!

No hurry. :D

Ever have a period of time

when everything goes sideways at once? Since I last posted everything went sideways….but my hair didn’t fry and is once again dirty blonde with no tell-tell roots showing.( That’s a good non-sideways thing!) I have searched through my unorganized recipe files and also through my recipe computer files & am at a loss. I remember leaving a copy with my Mom last Thanksgiving & it must have been my only copy. I love Knorr but also crave those pink vegetable dip mixes that come out every year around this time, sorry but I can’t remember the name….sausages, catalogs, mall venues, cheeses….something Farm???This is going to drive me nuts! Anyway I ramble….You haven’t ever cooked green bean casserole? You are an awesome cook & it’s so simple. I am floored. Do you think that will ship well? If so I will send one tommorrow. :)

Bigjimbocephus is still in the game... kinda.

x2, please!

~Sausage, cheese & Bisquick…to make sausage balls so we can munch on something tasty while the meal is cooking.

I desire more. More. MORE!

YUM!

Umm… more sausage balls, please.

Times two

XXXXOOOOOSMOOCH!

nicolasc needs to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into her being. After all, you are what you eat....no, wait...

My favorite things

are homemade cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. I don’t care if everything else gets burned. It’s not Thanksgiving without homemade cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

My dad insists on oyster cornbread stuffing and black-bottom lemon meringue pie, for my stepmom the turkey is key, and at my mom’s house there has to be lasagne.

We had this discussion...

yesterday and then in more detail, today.

Make a prime rib, green bean casserole and a nice salad at my place.
Invite my Mom and one of my brothers, the one who lives here in my complex.
And celebrate.
I thought about celebration and its many forms.

Of course we want to appreciate being alive,
and together.
My family has issues, and politics.
It’s always bullshit exciting at the Holidays
to figure out what to do.
Adrienne and I have rolled the dice.
I’ve invited my Mom and she said yes.
We’ll see how it goes.

I’m just happy that I have a relationship with someone who understands the miserable little intricacies of dysfunctional families the importance of celebration and togetherness…

outta of cheers again

Cheers for having someone that understands the family dynamics!!

No worries...

it took decades to figure out that there will always be an argument, some skeleton dragged out of the closet or someone sulking for whatever reason…

I actually secretly want to scream find it a little amusing…

More misadventures to come I’m sure!

LOL

We usually take bets on which skeleton shows up for dinner. Maybe this year we’ll set a place for it at the table. :)

MadamKelly with a pretty red bow

It’s just me and the hubs this year (oh, and some baby who keeps reappearing around here) so we’ll do tiny versions of our regular Thanksgiving dishes. For us, this means:

- A giant turkey (he gets a free one from work)
- Sweet potatoes made with marshmallows and brown sugar
- Scalloped corn
- Stuffing
- Deviled eggs
- Pecan pie with vanilla ice cream on the side

and then a really long nap

That sounds AMAZING!!! :-)

I don't know

if I’m going to mash or bake my sweet potatoes. I found a real good recipe that uses pecans along with other goodies.

MadamKelly with a pretty red bow

I love pecans!

Me too! :D

I'll need to get back to you on this one.

I know we’re planning on turkey, some kind of cranberry something (haven’t decided), pumpkin bread, sweet potato something (haven’t decided), probably six-layer chocolate cake OR a pumkin pie for dessert. We’re only going to have a few people over, so the menu is not going to be quite as big as it was last year. Oh, oh, crap, STUFFING! How could I forget?!

Edit: I was also thinking about making a pumkin roll. Maybe.

I was telling dear Mom today

I have 21 left to plan it… I will say we are having a turkey.
