My husband designed the door and it was built in Bali. May seem like an odd way to get a door. But we were ordering the pavilion from there, so the door was made possible.

What we’ve had in mind is a sort of fairy tale come to life, a fantasy that is made real.

I’ve studied pictures from the Pacific Northwest, treehouse designs from everywhere, and modern Hawaiian design and of course Balinese design.

Eventually, we chose a builder and ordered the windows and doors, His task was to incorporate them into the design. I am glad we didn’t try to us too many curves, as they add a level of complexity that is great if you can personally do the fitting but not so great if you have to write the checks.

Building in the trees, the actual trees, meant building around them and that’s lots of angles and a small interior. Someday you and Nick will come stay here, and see for yourself. There is magic here, and it comes first of all from the place.
