Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Happy Phantom is raising money for Shari's Crohnies

read the top 50 censored books (read all 16 entries…)
This is a great conversation piece

I have been bringing this up at parties and family get togethers. Everyone is very interested in what’s on the list and why I think so many of these books have been challeneged. I wish the ALA would give more specifics on each book beyond what I have read. But this has been awesome. I am so glad I am doing this!

Censored books- A conversation Piece

I saw your goal to read the top 50 censored books and being curious, had to check it out. I didn’t know that there were so many censored books.

I’ve only read a little bit on this goal, but I’m already intrigued and am thinking about adding it to my list of goals.

This year I’d like to read 50 books so this sounds like an interesting thing to do.

I’ll have to go back to the list that you posted earlier, but from I quickly read off the list, I think that I’ve read a couple of the books.

Thanks for sharing this goal. I remember reading some of these books in school! I’m sad that some of these books might not be available in schools today!

It's usually

one wacky parent or school that sets it off. In the US, I’d be surprised to find more than a few libraries that didn’t carry these books.

Speaking of good books,

I heard on the radio that one of John Steinbeck’s books sold for $48,000! (I think that it was the Grapes of Wrath).

No way

Really? An original print or what?

It was a rare edition. The link below has more details.

Wow

That is excellent. there are plenty of book collectors out there. I wish I had the patience to understand it all.
