Complain to the Robots about the new subscriptions page (read all 2 entries…)
Micheka has swayed me...

...to the other side…

I really wanted to like the new page, I really did. It was nice to have the subscriptions link actually go somewhere. And I really dislike the thought of myself complaining when all these sites have been such a boon for me.

However.

Micheka has made valid points concerning these pages that are beyond mere layout, that have deterred from the functioning of the page, and I must join forces with her in this team.

Issues:

1) When one of your subscriptions comments on someone else’s thread, the listing in your subscription page no longer indicated who the third party is, and you cannot see who they are conversing with without going into the thread itself.

2) User cannot cheer an entry from the subscription page, one must follow the link through to the original entry, sometimes leading the user through a longer thread, making it difficult to find the entry that was desired to be cheered in the first place.

3) The linking of all a subscribee’s content from the 4 sites, while it can be turned off for any one given user for any one of the four given sites, can only be detail modified through the user going through the subscribee’s home page on 43people, and this much linking just makes everything overwhelming.

4) The lack of a counter as to the amount of subscribers a user has when they check their own subscribees’ content.

I’m not completely sold on the last issue yet, but the others are enough to make me believe that something other than the layout was lost in the conversion.

Comments:

Items 1,2,4 soon to be fixed

Thanks for the clear description of what’s missing. We hope to have 3 of these fixed later today.

For item 3, you can actually unsubscribe from any particular feed from any entry. You can also click on the user’s image to the left to get to that control panel. We’d love suggestions on how to make this better, simpler, or more obvious.

I'm now only more confused...

...as some users control panels include netflix options? But within my own pages I see no option to link or disable links to my netflix account.

Oh, day 1, why can you not be easier?

Adding feeds

Those feeds are there because someone added them. You can add any RSS feed to your profile and then people can pick and choose what they want to subscribe to.

You can add or edit your feeds at http://lazlozian.43people.com/feeds

Awesome, thanks!

Was this one of those obvious things I just completely missed? AGAIN?

Ye gods, I need to look around more. This was the other reason I don’t like to complain: it’s usually my fault.

I can't help but dwell...

...on ways that it could be easy and obvious. It just seems so close that a little nudge would do it.

Possible suggestions:

1) What if the ‘unsubscribe’ under each entry in the subscription feed instead went to ‘subscription settings’ and led to the control panel for that particular subscribee?

2) I’d love to be able to comment from the subscriptioin feed as well, and now I can’t remember if that was available before or not.

I see cheering from there was added back in, as well as other little nibbles, thanks super much!

Well, I have something for 2)

http://whee.dk/GreaseMonkey/43things.subscription.comment.user.js

I made a little GreaseMonkey script which adds a Comment on this link to 43things entries and comments. I’ve only tested it quickly, but it looks like it’s working.

Thanks for the idea ;)

you rock

I just used your little script here to leave this comment. Amazing.
