onebaygirl is simplifying.
I found an injured cat outside, took her to the vet and it turned out she would be all right. I was going to find her a home because I already have two cats. I received a call from an interested party who was asking if the cat likes to scratch things. I explained that any cat will scratch at least some, and that if you don’t want your furniture scratched, then at cat is not for you. I also told her I don’t believe in declawing and that I wouldn’t give the cat to someone who would declaw. I described declawing to her and it turned out she really didn’t know anything about the procedure before and agreed that it’s cruel.
Turns out I’m keeping the cat because she fits right in here and has befriended the other cats :-)
I have also educated others on declawing whenever the topic comes up. I’m surprised each time when they really don’t know what’s involved in declawing.
