I done this a few times on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Sometimes a little lonely, but just get in there and talk to others. Carry some photos of your family, friends and home town. Take some postcards to give away. It is a great ice breaker to scatter photos/cards and show them off. Once people know you are on your own and where you are from you will make new friends quickly.
