Today marks a very important achievment

I drove on a street. Yes, that’s right – a real street. We went to get gas, and my husband drove us into a drug store parking lot afterwords, and said, “How about you drive us home?”

So, I started to drive. I got half way home, and then he took over because of some… issues. However! I did really well up until that point, and I can do even better next time, because that’s just the way I roll.

learning curve

Awesome! I’m happy for you! I know this has made you nervous for some time.

I know how nervous I was, learning to drive. I took Driver’s Ed when I was 16, but didn’t get my liscense until I was 19. I could never figure out which side of the wheel was “up” after turning a corner, so I couldn’t pull out of turns well, and ended up all over the road (and ditch). My mom put claw marks into my dashboard over that one.

Once I did get it, though, it suddenly seemed like no big deal at all. Now I’m an excellent driver. Over 20 years experience now, and I’ve never been in an accident. Not even when it was icy.

I’m really glad to see you focusing on your learning instead of your fear. Some day I know you’ll look back at all this and wonder why it was ever such a big deal.

I hope so!

Thanks for sharing your experience – I love reading about it. :)

I’m so impressed that you have never been in an accident!

Thank you.

I’m not sure that starting as an older driver might not have had an effect on that. Young kids learn to drive and feel very cocky about their abilities. They’re interested in the speed and the “cool” factor. Perhaps people who learn to drive when they’re a bit older have more natural sense of caution, awareness, and judgement, with a greater emphasis on the safety of the trip than on how impressive you look doing it.

That’s why I think you’re going to do great.

Again, I hope!

Thanks so much for that encouragement :)

Hooray!!

That’s such an accomplishment!
