They say everyone has a time of day when they are “in the zone” – late at night is good for me too, when we’re on school holidays, otherwise its about 11am… and I’m don’t always have computer time on my schedule at 11am!

I find that freewriting and reading books of your chosen genre helps. I also find that it is helps to just relax and let your mind drift. I’ve gotten some of my best results from just relaxing probably because my mind wanders off when I relax. Of course then I run into the problem of having so many different ideas that they really don’t go with plot but I just store the ideas for later in hopes that they will help me if not in the novel I’m writing then in another one.

Cool. Thanks. Where do you store your ideas???

Well I store all my brainstorms in a folder I have specially for brainstorms. It keeps everything very orgainized and it is really easy to look at if I have run out of ideas for the story and the moment. I always seem to come to dead ends but looking at some of my brainstorms helps me to get back on track even if they have nothing to do with my story at the moment because they force me to think what else? What could I change to make it fit? I find it useful hopefully you will too. Good luck with your novel.

Orange oil?

What’s this about orange oil?

I often burn a combination of oils called Energy made by a company called Primavera Life (mostly tree smells like juniper), and sometimes grapefruit oil if I’m down or a mix of lavender oil and clove or cassia if I’m houseworking. But orange oil?

And I play particular music (CPE Bach at the moment) when I’m writing, and often eat sugared almonds. And I’ll have a toasty turf fire burning, and a dog at my feet and a cat on the table.

Ha ha ha – you’ve already “got” it – burning oils for relaxation, or rejuvenation…. geranium/orange happens to be my favourite as a pick-me-up – or the more expensive Neroli (uses the seed and leaf instead of the fruit peel).

Thanks for your input…

Cheers!

Oh, what’s your novel about?
