read every book I own (read all 30 entries…)
House Of Leaves

I truly enjoyed House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danelewski. The book is complex while remaining accessible (unlike Ulysses which I am still trying to slog through). I love the psychological aspect of how the house changes depending on who is in it, similar to how this book changes depending on who is reading it I am sure. My favorite part was the appendix with letters to Johnny from his mother. I felt such a strong bond to Johnny. This is the first time in a long, long while that an author has been able to draw me so completely in that I feel emotional about the characters. I look forward to reading this book again.

HoL

Thanks Dentona! I was considering getting The Whalestoe Letters but I might wait awhile because I am starting to feel like I have too many books. I never heard of The Fifty Year Sword, I wonder why it wasn’t released in the U.S.? I am excited and yet wary of reading more from Danielewski. I really hate it when I love one book by someone and then find that I don’t like their other books. Do you read the forum on HoL? I followed the footnotes this time, maybe next time I will read it on a linear path :). What I find very interesting about the book is that it has the index of words in the back. I am curious what I would find when I look up certain words. :)

Jenny has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
