I am now trying to get my head round a great book by David Foster called deep calls to deep. It is a guide to deeper forms of prayer and I am finding it thought provoking and helpful. It talks a lot about listening and coming to know the will of god rather than just asking endless things. David Foster is novice master at Downside Abbey in UK. I really like his writing style too. I am also finding that I definitely cannot rush these things, or push myself too hard. Learning to listen is quite an art. I am still noticing reams of resistance inside myself to all of this – perhaps it is good that I am aware of it, maybe it means I may be getting somewhere. Or maybe it just means I am really stubborn!
