I’m notorious for putting everything on my desktop. I really clean it out every couple of months, but to keep it looking nice and empty I use a program called FENCES.

Its a freeware program and organizes all the things on your desktop into different groups. Best of all, if you double click on your desktop to HIDE ALL YOUR ITEMS so it looks like your desktop is minimalistic. Super easy!
