learn to raise bees and make honey (read all 2 entries…)
Honey 3 years ago

Well, Mr Jingels husband bought me a book on raising bees and making honey. So this is a great beginning. Am slowly working my way through it

The bees make the honey!

I’ve always wanted to have an apiary, too. But I have so many things I want to do…lol…some just have to wait.

Many thanks

You are very kind. I truly hope that I can pull this off. We have the perfect environment for me to get this up and going. Just a bit of patience and time…................

Thankyou

I’ve been told that before. Never really taken much notice. Someone told me the other day that I had an eye for detail. Maybe that is why I love quilting so much….......

Deni H is juggling a lot of balls right now.

This seems like such a brave goal to me...

I stay away from insects as much as possible…especially ones that may harm me! Every time I come to your page I just stare at the goal in amazement. Good luck! :D

Thankyou Deni

You know where we live, we have the most gorgeous bumblebees. They are all chubby and cute, and get quite “drunk” on all the flowers. I love watching them, and they certainly inspired me to go ahead with this…...

Oh No.................

We have the most beautiful bees where we live – they are chubby bumble bees, and are so beautiful and the best thing is they don’t bite you…...

Trauma_Junkie is going to work. Money is good. helping people is good.

I volunteer

to be an official taster! I loooove honey. I’m quite afraid of bees, but I understand if you don’t bother them they usually do not bother you…
A few years ago we actually got a huge hive on our property, in a bad place, so some bee keepers came and removed it and set them up in a happy home. It was great.

How is the goal going??

OK

you can be my taster. I just love honey so much. This is going a bit slower than I had hoped, but hey, all good things take time. Talking about bees, we have to most delightful “bumble” bees down here, and they don’t come around and bother you at all. They are quite chubby and v.v. cute, but you are right, if you don’t bother them, they certainly leave you alone. Thanks for the encouragement…..... :)

bee-keeping

my favorite English teacher was an avid bee-keeper for years. he would share his stories of how one exists with bees and the stages of the bees’ lives, etc.

since graduating looong ago, i’ve stayed with him and his wife. he showed me his bee box (not sure of accurate name of these manmade bee houses).

(Made sure I took classes with him two years in a row during high school, even though he terrified me the first month of junior year.)

That's a shame

I do love them, especially the bumble bees. I spend a lot of time watching them, only because they don’t hurt you at all… Cheers to you:)

ooh!

we went to the beekeeping museum in Radovljica! it was really interesting. i even learned a new German word: Bienenstockvorsatztäfelchen. it means the wooden panel that gets slotted in front of the hive. seems that in slovenia they are/were all painted to distinguish the different owners. we took a picture of a particularly gruesome one.

Hey, thanks Zanna

I’ll have a look at this. Still want to do this so much, but haven’t been able to slot in the time as yet, but I’ll get there…. Thankyou :)

DoubleN is working on selling the house

One of my fondest childhood memories is seeing jar after jar of honey lined up in my grandfather’s basement windows – illuminated in the sunshine like glowing, molten amber. We ate it on buttered bread and I thought that must be what heaven is like.

I recently read an article in our local newspaper about a prison work-release program (of all things!) in which they teach the ex-cons how to be beekeepers. Most of the honey produced is sold to a company that makes beauty products like lip balm.

Good luck on this endeavor, if you still plan to do it!

Thankyou DoubleN

Oh yes, I still so want to do this. I just have had to put it on the back burner for a little while, but I will definitely get around to it. Those childhood memories sound amazing. Isn’t it wonderful what remains in your memory bank. I like the thought of ex-cons being taught something as wonderful as bee keeping. It has to be a good thing, hey!!!! Thanks again for your kind thoughts and cheers to you :)

Thankyou so much BeeQueen

I do so hope I get around to this. I just need a bit more time at the moment. We have beautiful beeswax here in Tassie and the most divine honey. There certainly is no shortage of bees for me to be able to do this. I love your candles, and yes, your house would smell glorious. Do you sell these at the markets? Cheers to you:)

Good luck

with selling all your beautiful products. Hey, maybe I should have a 43P Party and invite people here who love those piccies. Would be fun, wouldn’t it?? You are welcome anytime. Cheers back :)

booksbooksbooks is feeling very lucky

I have to ask a question that has nothing to do with beekeeping … though you know I’m a big fan of your goal:

How do you know when 43T people’s birthdays are? Are they listed somewhere? Or do you ask individuals?

I wonder and wander, yet haven’t found any answer.

:)

Thank you kindly in advance.

Hey Ellie

I have missed you. How have you been??? Thankyou for getting in touch. Now, the only reason that I know a lot of birthdays is that I do get invited, but there is a link here http://www.43things.com/entries/view/464195, which Des, dwlt, and pioneerspirit are keeping up to date, and they seem to have everyone’s birthdays pretty much spot on. Hope this helps. Hugs to you….. :)

Thank you, Nonna',

for the link!

B’days are important to me.

I’m doing O.K. Not great. Not good. O.K. Thankfully, I have a wonderful husband in so many ways.

I’ve had a great need to be by myself for awhile now.

I’ve missed all of you at 43T, especially those with whom I communicated frequently like you.

Today, I’m here. It might be more of a pop-in to see how everyone’s doing. Not sure I’m up to coming back on a daily basis.

Know that I think of you, even if I’m not active here.

ellie

I'm glad that you popped by.....

Just knowing that you are still around is comforting. Take care of you, and whenever I hear from you will be a bonus. ((((HUGS)))) from Nonna x

You’re a good woman, Nonna’. :D

What a nice … sweet goal!
Did you buy a family of bees? :)

Thankyou

No, not yet!! This is definitely something I want to do this year. I hope that I can find the time and all the information to do it well :)

A good start is to help someone who has bees already. Do you know someone?

Actually I do......

I was just thinking the other day that I must get in touch with this person, as I haven’t seen him around for a while, but he has beautiful honey. Thankyou for the reminder – on my “to do list”... :)

thanks to you

for your sweet goal! :)
