Live in Italy for a year.
A little research 3 years ago

Well, I watched a movie last night with scenes from Santorini, and before I even knew exactly where in Greece it was, I started crying. I know. I’m a freak. I just think it looks so beautiful. Greece and Italy look like slices of heaven on Earth. I’ve known I have to go there for a very long time, probably started when I was six or seven or eight or so.

Anyway. I realized that I really don’t want to just visit on a vacation (though that would be nice and if that’s all I ever get I’ll consider myself blessed). But I wonder, is it possible, without doing some kind of serious damage to my career and savings and everything else adult-and-necessary that I’m building in my life to drop everything in the U.S. for a year and just move to Italy? Could I really do that? Could it work?

I wonder if I could get a professional job there. A job in IT, doing business analysis or technical writing. Maybe I could. So I did a little research and found these sites:

http://www.bancaprofessioni.it/default_fr.asp
http://www.lavoro.cc/index-goo.html
http://europass.cedefop.eu.int/

I then realized that it’s probably possible to find a job there of some form … now if only I could speak Italian! LOL! So then I looked up this: http://www3.uwm.edu/sce/course.cfm?id=5320.

For a $175 I can begin learning Italian in two weeks. Huh!

Percolation. Marination. Thoughts thoughts thoughts …

Always follow your dream

Always follow your dream!
Italy can be a very pleasent country , though , as you sure already wonder , not everywhere is beautiful as in movies and most of picture seems to be like , so if you came to live in Italy ( you are welcome!)be sure of where you are going to work first!
The language must be your second aware:Italian have a very complex gramar , and what will make to learn it difficult for you (if you dont speack any other latin-derivate language such spanish or french for example ) is that the english gramar is completly different.
Dont spend your money on a crash course because it will not help you at all , save them up because you are gonna find the country extremly expensive. The only thing that can help you is spending alot of time studying and practicing.I suggest you to take some classes as well and once you can actually manage the base of the language , try to chat online in italian. The language and the knoledge of the gramar will be require in most of the works.
Is not gonna be easy , it will require you alot of discipline ( quality that italian doesnt have much , beside..eheh) but you can 100% do it , because its only about your will , you CAN win yourself or you can make your self a looser. You can make your dream became the truth or you can make them illusion.
You have the power.Use it.

Best wishes! :-) ( let me know how is it going and if you need any help , dont esitate to ask!)

Hi There!

Hi Giulietta! Hope you r doing ok in Italy!

I will probably be moving to Italy but do not know where exactly. I have heard that Verona and Bologna are good and decent cities to live in. What city would you recommend for someone who wants to find a job that involves the use of English besides Milan? I heard that Milan has a very high cost of living. I have Italian citizenship but have never lived in Italy. I also speak Portuguese and Spanish…

Grazie per tu aiutta!

Prego , non c'e' di che.

Hey , im doing fine , though im actually out the country at the moment!
I have a couple of relative that live in Verona , between the two I would definitly say that people are much more openminded and wellcoming in Bologna.
The south and the centre of Italy offer a very much higher quality of life , I would definitly suggest Tuscany , Campania and Sicily as region to consider.
About Milan it is true that its a quiet expensive city but unfortunally if you are looking for a very specific job then you should really consider a place such it.Have you been thinking about the capital as well?Rome is also expensive but its indeed a place to look foward for a job.Defintly you should consider any turistic city avalaible if you are interested in working into turism ( for istance , guiding english speacking turist ).
Its great you already speack spanish and portuguese because you wont need more then a couple of months to be able to comunicate almoust perfectly , and its excellent that you have the citizenship!
Whish you best and hope to hear whats up!
