I’ve finally been sent to a collections agency.

The letter says I owe U.S. Cellular $669.94. The collections agency is charging 167.49 to collect from me this money.
Does anyone know: if I called the c.a. right away, might there be a chance someone (the agency or US Cell) would cut me a deal? Like special circumstances, or plain poorness?
