Wish Josh a Step Forward on the Eightfold Path on his May 27th Birthday
Happy Birthday

First, I want to applaud Josh for jumping right in there today and upping his age from 28 to 29 in his bio. I know when I was looking at it last nigth it still said 28 and I wondered if he would remember to change it, and he did.

Second, while we were having our 43T meet in Chicago this weekend, Josh was a topic of discussion. I’d brought a birthday card for Josh with me and as it was passed around and signed by those present, we speculated on whether or not Josh is a Buddhist. I shared that I had created the phrasing for this birthday goal based upon one of Josh’s goals but that I didn’t really know whether Josh was Buddhist or not. We all agreed that Josh writes some very meaningful passages here and that we’re honored to be able to interact with him.

So here are my wishes for you Josh, on your 29th birthday: May you continue to make progress on building your home as well as finding new jobs that will help you improve your condition. May you make time to read regularly, whether it be something light and fun or something with depth and substance. And may you have a chance to experience adventures now and then, whether it be skydiving or riding a motorcycle.

beautiful, Todd. :)

Josh ...and life just rolls on like a river.

Todd...

...always writes the best birthday wishes. :)

Thank you for the kind words and well wishes. I really appreciate them. I was wondering if anyone would notice that I changed my age on my profile. I guess people do pay attention to that… I had always wondered. :)

I would also like to thank everyone who signed my birthday card. It means a lot to me, and I will be sending each of you a thank you note in the form of a PM in the next few days. Thank you, Todd, for getting me the card and for mailing it.

As for the Buddhist thing… yes. I’m a Buddhist. I’m glad you have enjoyed my musings on here, but I don’t really know if I have anything profound to say. I believe a lot of things from different other faiths, as well… but I’ve believed myself to be a Buddhist since I was in high school. I’ve been to some formal Buddhist ceremonies and training sessions before (primarily in the Zen traditions of Japan, Korea, and Vietnam). Most of my knowledge of the subject, though, comes through my experiences in the martial arts and through personal study and introspection. The martial arts tradition that I am apart of has a strong academic side to it. I’m writing a 25 page paper, for instance, as part of my second degree black belt test. I wrote a 35 page paper when I got my first degree.

Again… thank you so much for the kind words, the card, and the birthday wishes. I wish I could have met up with you on this last road trip you took. Someday we’ll hang out and talk philosophy, road tripping, and books…. and hopefully go on a run. :) Thanks, Todd.

Definitely

As I’ve said before, I know that we’ll meet up somewhere someday and will definitely discuss books, philosophy and maybe even go for a run.

I must apologize though because I forgot to have Flutter sign your birthday card when I met up with her.

Josh ...and life just rolls on like a river.

No need for apologies...

...I’m just astounded at the number of people who did sign it. I know it was just an over site… and I’m sure Flutter knows that, as well. Thank you again for the card. It means quite a bit to me.
