Get dreads (read all 6 entries…)
Lately I've been thinking...

About getting real dreads. Why? Well, my hair is quite damaged by all the dying all the time, so if I want to have healthy hair again, I’d need to cut off quite some piece. So why not take real dreads? I liked the fake ones really well. Eventhough I know real ones will never be as nice as those (I don’t have that much hair), but still I think I’d quite like them. Also my hair is now pretty long, at least for my standards, and I like dreads that are not too short. Dreads will also still be dyable, because I’m not done yet with the crazy colours ;). You’d need a lot of dye probably, but hey, it’s worth it.

Not sure if I’ll go through with this though, I sure must give it some more thought.

Yes, thin ones are nicer than real thick ones, I agree :). The thing with real dreads is that I often see people that have awesome ones, but I also see people with smudgy ones. I don’t know what makes the exact difference between those two (maybe you have to take care of them really well?), but the smudgy ones are just gross :(. I most certainly don’t want my dreads to turn out like that!

Getting fake ones to boost up the volume is a good idea, they will work nicely together indeed :). I’m still not exactly sure if I should get them or not, I am a bit scared that they will get boring quite fast. On the other hand you can always take them out and sport a short haircut. My hair is so damaged it needs to be cut quite short anyway, in order for it to be healthy again :(.

What made you decide not to take them (at least for now)?

Yes, and when getting dreads, how do you know the person giving them to you is really good? I mean, a lot of people offer their ‘dread service’ over the internet, for reasonable prices, but you don’t know the quality. I wouldn’t go to someone like that. If I will take them I should read up on them first. Already did some minor ‘research’ and it seems like you have to wax them every once in a while in order for them to stay nice. Some people also offer repair services for strange loops and dreads that are intertwined.

Synthetic ones are really nice, but like you said quite expensive. I had them done by a ‘hobbyist’, so it was cheaper than the hairdresser. I made sure she had done some courses to learn the technique. Still it is expensive, especially because the time you can have them is only limited. My hair grows quite fast, so they last only 6 to 8 weeks I think? Don’t remember it that well ;).

I do think you should take the synthetic ones, they are awesome :D.
