Make more time for Mom (read all 22 entries…)
Wow.

I’ve had an overdose of time with Mom this past week. Friday morning when she was at a hotel 3 hours away on her way to breakfast, she fell and fractured her upper humerus in several places. This has been a huge ordeal encompassing 3 different emergency rooms, insurance issues, coordination with surgeon’s offices and the senior village staff where she lives, and me serving the exhausting role of her 24/7 nursemaid for 3 1/2 days. The good news is she does not need that total shoulder replacement the first ER doctor mentioned, nor any surgery.

Also good is the fact that I discovered another health problem that, amazingly, she doesn’t even see as a problem. She gets up about every hour to pee, all night long, every night. When I told her this is not normal and we need to address it, she brushed it off. Maybe this explains some of her weirder behavior – sleep deprivation!

Also good was the way we were able to bond watching HGTV together one night. :) Here is David Bromstad, who I discovered I love.

I learned from my doctor

that elderly (and not so elderly) women frequently have UTIs without having any, or very few, symptoms. Except for sometimes strange behavior. Of course, this may not be what’s wrong with your mom, but it’s definitely information worth knowing.

It sure is -

thank you so much, Flirt. I kind of assumed it was not an infection because of the lack of odor and how it looks, but I definitely want this checked out, and am enlisting the help of the medical staff at her elder village. Now I know I should really push for an actual culture.

Thank you

so much, Tiger! I didn’t realize TG’s Mom had a similar problem, though it sounds like she’s much worse – tell him they’re in my thoughts and prayers.

LOL!

I wouldn’t dare start drinking right now – I might never stop! :) though I am going to try to break free Saturday night for a friend’s 40th birthday bash I committed to many weeks ago. At a pub.

I did

actually indulge in a couple of small glasses of chardonnay last night, but then forgot and before bed took a Lexapro – disaster! I still feel completely muddled.
