First week is all observation, but my teacher lets me help out with the small groups, and already treats me like a teacher in front of the kids, so its going well. They don’t treat me like a stranger, and I don’t feel like a bump on a log, in the way of everything. I’m involved, and I’m having a great time!
A few quick happenings:
One little boy told me I was “just beautiful.” Not beautiful, “JUST beautiful.” He then asked me to wear the same outfit again the next day. I said “I have to wash it first.” He said “Can’t you wash it tonight?” I said “No, but I have other clothes that I like and I can wear some of those.” He said “Well, when you DO wear it again, will you wear it exactly like that?” and then he gestured at the black shirt and pants I was wearing under the over-shirt he liked so much. I just laughed and said “I think that can be arranged.” Little children can be so good for the ego! (Or would that be bad???)
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what they allow teachers to get for two bucks at lunch everyday! The teacher’s bar always has a salad bar and a hot bar, and dessert and tea and coffee. Different salads every day (real salads – not just lettuce with a few tomatoes on top), different entrees. . . ALWAYS something that I can have on my diet that is also actually appetizing. And for $2.00. It’s awesome! (But I hear at other schools around here it’s not that great – that teachers just get what the kids get. I need to get hired by this school!)
My grandmother gave me some “cobbie’s cuddlers” in black. Theyre like loafers, but they’re like walking on air or pillows all day long. My feet NEVER hurt, or my legs. I’m tired – but no blisters and no achyness first thing in the morning, which I usually have when I’m on my feet all day long. (Yes – I am that out of shape.) I wore my roommate’s fluevogs today because it was jeans day and they just looked better, and they were “okay” but my legs ache now. Getting up to pee is a hassle. I may sleep here at the kitchen table. I will wear my cuddlers again Monday, so I dont feel this pain again. I love those shoes – I need some dressier ones for all my skirts!
I love my kids. They’re so smart!! They’re funny, they try so hard to be good. . .
I’m gushing. I’ll go for now :)
