tikini tikiniland ~ where it is always summertime
in a faltering economy
it can be extra hard to keep your eyes on the level of good sustenance. There is such pressure on the wallet to go for the cheap.
Places I have found it pays off big to “pay the true cost” are in the food and culture categories. Food because those free range chicken eggs and organic foods taste and feel better. I don’t feel like I am poisoning myself.
The culture part is more subtle. In Hawaiian culture there is the concept of “pono”. Pono is loosely translated righteousness. There is a connotation to the word that is not exactly righteousness, but more “choosing to live right by choosing to do right”. People who live their lives this way are frequently musicians, artists of various sorts, and others who offer what they have and do for consumption, often by one person at a time. What they offer is personal, bathed in the appreciation of the planet.
Thanks for posting this goal and your entries.
thank you
for putting pono in this context – or for putting this goal in the context of pono.
Your post speaks to me on a bunch of levels. my family is from Hawaii and so many of them have helped me to understand the myriad differences between the many and rich values and qualities of a good life, good lives lived in context and – the cost of living.
Also, just yesterday I went to see a lyrical object theater performance designed to be viewed – one person at a time.

If you have more nuances to add
please do
I love the concept of pono.
