when i was six, we emigrated from the philippines, and i knew little english and had a strong accent.
one day in school, girls were making fun of me without knowing i could hear them.
i made a decision right then and there to not speak my mother tongue again.
i immersed myself in english…books, magazines, tv shows, movies, friends.
when i was in eighth grade, i was chosen to study spanish. i fell in love with the romance of it.
its a lifelong process to learn a language.
