volunteer in India
So incredible...awesomest thing I've ever done!

India is a one of a kind experience. The people are so incredibly kind hearted, generous, and hospitable. It was a win win situation, I volunteered AND spent time in what I believe is one of the most beautiful places on earth! I spent a month in Northern India and the scenery was truly breath taking! Seeing the gorgeous smiles on the children’s faces and treking in the foothills of the Himalayas is something I’m looking forward to doing again soon :)

Thank you!

And best of luck to you on completing this goal! :)

Can you tell me

which organisation you volunteered with and what you did? I’m looking to do something similar but where I don’t have to pay for flights (I have no money myself!)

Yeah,

I volunteered with the More Than Tomorrow Project (morethantomorrow.org) and the Himachel Children and Development Organization (himachelchildren.org). I helped teach computer literacy to kids and young adults and worked on a paper recycling project with village women. To volunteer with both of these organizations you must completely fund it yourself, the plane ticket as well as a volunteer fee which covers food and lodging. India is the country with the most nonprofits, there must be at least one that covers food and/or lodging. To find that organization takes really great research. You might want to check out idealist.org, its a great website that has profiles and links to organizations that you can contact. I wish I could be of more help! Good luck to you!

I forgot...

You can also fundraise to raise money for your trip (thats what I did). It takes a great idea and devoted people to support you. A wealthy sponsor would help! One of the organizations helped me organize a car wash to help me raise some funds. I also believe that there might be a website where you can create a profile and promote yourself as a volunteer who needs funding and get some money that way. Google!
