Happy New Year

Hello sally0777. I especially like the third one you logged about planning and failure. A few years ago, I entered 100 quotes in a 43T goal. One that is near the end of my list is this one: “Give everyone permission not to be able to read your mind and give yourself permission to change.” From Discardia. (Unfortunately, it looks like I don’t have the exact page where she wrote that.) This quote speaks to what I’ve been working on in my life for several years now.

One thing I like to live by is

“If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be a part of your revolution.” (attributed to Emma Goldman) I take it to mean that I am more than ready to work to change things for the better, but not to become an automaton in your politically correct/religious/patriotic/insert-other-agenda-here army. I won’t lose myself and I won’t stop being silly when I want to.

I also like:
“So what? Are you standing on a trap door?” (attributed to nicolasc) Meaning, so you made a mistake, or you said something stupid – is that it, game over? Is it the end of the world?

And:

“When you’re 80 and looking back, what will you regret?” (also attributed to nicolasc…dang, I’m wise!) Meaning, you have one life, what is it that you’re doing or not doing that you will regret when your life passes before your eyes? I am not always great at this one (for example…here I am on the computer…!), but I try to remind myself of that.

tangerine_now Out of cheers, I am. Annoying, this is.

I like the trapdoor question

It’s good thinking. :)

:-)

Thanks!

Triniprincess ...live yuh life like yuh playing mas!!!

You ARE wise.

Love the Emma Goldman…but more profoundly, I love your analysis of it! :)

In some circles where I live,

people interpret silliness as a lack of commitment, lack of maturity, being cooly aloof and jaded means that you are real and see the big picture. Which in my mind is just a big affectation. Pthhhht!

So that quote really resonates for me!

because I am

real and see the big picture just emphasizes the need to be silly.

Whether your’e silly or droll really has no effect on the world. Might as well have fun with it.

Exactly!

You got it!

Mottos

Some of the life rules I got from Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax, combined:
  • Don’t trust a dog with orange eyebrows.
  • Always get the young man’s name and address.
  • Never stand between two mirrors.
  • Always wear clean underwear because if you don’t and you were knocked dead in the street by a cart you would die of shame.
A quote I keep close to me, especially in these times of political idiocy, is Isaac Newton’s:

“For every complex problem there is a solution that is simple, obvious, and wrong.”

blue_cheeze Love, or something ignites in my veins...

3 mottos.

The truth is, everybody is going to hurt you, you just got to find the ones worth hurting for.
-Bob Marley

If you ain’t living on the edge, you’re taking up too much room.

No regrets.

iamcarson Wag More; Bark Less!

I very much disagree with the Bob Marley quote and very much agree with the ‘Living on the edge’ one.

iamcarson Wag More; Bark Less!

(I hope my reply didn’t sound rude. I just don’t agree with Bob that it’s inevidable that people are going to hurt you.)

blue_cheeze Love, or something ignites in my veins...

not rude...haha

I know what you mean. I’ve just been hurt a lot in my life by literally, almost everybody. So that’s my quote I remember every time I consider shoving someone out of my life when I start loving them to death and I know they could easily crush me. Just find the ones worth hurting for, and don’t let people walk all over you. :) there’s my long-winded explaination.

iamcarson Wag More; Bark Less!

It make sense that, if you are going to be hurt, at least it should be worth it!

Here’s to a pain-free 2011! ((( )))

iamcarson Wag More; Bark Less!

My 2 cents - and 2 quotes

- There’s no such thing as bad weather; just bad clothes.

- Worry is like rocking in a rocking chair – it gives you something to do but it doesn’t get you anywhere.

Words to live by

1. If it feels good, do it. This is more than just a moral imperative, it is an evolutionary mandate.

2. If the enemy is in range, so are you. This is a slightly more graphic restatement of the Golden Rule.

3. Tracers work both ways. Another version of the Golden Rule.

4. My personal favorite, though, is this Navajo proverb: There is nothing so eloquent as a rattlesnake’s tail.

P.S. Delighted to see you back here, Sally.

Wow I didnt think anyone would miss me :)
big smiles

Thanks everyone, I love to hear quotes and liked your interpretations.

I enjoyed reading them :)
