I applied to one shelter which required all kinds of things, like personal references, vet and landlord calls, even a home visit. The fact I live in an apartment is not a good thing.
Mostly I got turned down for financial reasons. For over a decade they’ve been a mess. I only got my dog from my mom for my 14th Birthday and when it came down to the end my parents footed those bills too.
I’ll leave this on my list for awhile but I don’t think the situation will ever improve. That’s too bad. I grew up with dogs and three years without any is an empty life. However if I can’t afford vet bills then owning one would be selfish.
