A friend and I were commissioned to write this year’s school play, an enormous honour, and something we completed over the 2010 summer holidays. We were writing for at least 3-4 hours most days of the week, but the deadline of September was definitely a great motive to keep us working.
After a few months of rehearsal, the play was finally put on, to enormous success; the writers were given a standing ovation, brought up on stage to blinding lights and the whole room in applause. One of the most surreal, yet beautiful, moments of my life.
If I were to give any advice, it would be to really put your heart and intellect into every single line; it pays off! People I’d never met were congratulating me, giving their interpretations, some even picking up on very subtle things that we had put in place. It was any creative person’s absolute dream, and something that I’ll keep with me for the rest of my life.
