Skype partner in Germany said I was fluent (fließend)

Very glad after years of practice that my Skype language exchange partner said I was fluent during our last call. Yay! I’m still not fluent according to my own criteria as I don’t feel I’ve got enough vocabulary and my mastery of some of the basic grammar rules leads to awkward or halting communication. I’m still a bit fuzzy about when I’ll feel I’m fluent – but my working definition right now is that I’m comfortable speaking in the language with co-workers who are native German speakers. I’m definitely not there yet!

congrats

on your perceived fluency! :) building sentences in another language is really difficult, especially when the grammar is as complicated as in German. I’m sure you’ll get to the point where you’ll be comfortable to speak German with just about anyone.

thanks!

Your encouraging words are very appreciated. Vielen Dank! I’ve been tackling other issues and this goal hasn’t gotten as much attention, even though I’m still moving towards it.
