Calculating the heat capacity is not quite easy if you lack a thermometer. However, it is not impossible: I have had fun calculating such things using a very simple equipment.

The conclusion: if your heating does not work this winter, and you have to choose between a 20 kg rock at 80 ºC and a 20 kg ham at the same temperature… the ham will get you warm longer!
