I have experienced social anxiety for many years. I am now almost 19 and a sophmore at Western Michigan University. I moved into the dorms knowing nothing about my roomate…
My goal was to be as social as possible once I got to college and for the first semester that is ALL I cared about and my grades reflected that ( I got C’s and D’s) )-:
Now I’m really focused on school but my lack of social interaction is causing me to experience a great deal of anxiety around others…

You're not alone
I’m still in high school, but I know what you mean about everyone judging you because I feel the same way. Other people don’t know how hard it is for us with social anxiety. I discovered if you’re not super social with someone you just met, then they ignore you, because there are others who are super social. My grades too are slipping because I am overwhelmed by panic attacks when I am doing a presentation, or when I work with a stranger.
Good luck with college focus on your studies, and try not to worry about those others who just don’t understand your pain. Remember to take it one step at a time. You can’t just walk into class and all of the sudden be super social. Think of what you can do, little things that make you feel good. For instance, I was so happy today because I talked to a girl in class, and now she keeps talking to me. I feel I accomplished a goal even if to others it sounds stupid. Don’t let anxiety control you.
Take care and good luck!

Howdy,
I’m in Kazoo too. The problem is that your “thinking” that others are judging you.
Solution: Assume they ARE judging you and then determine that you don’t care.
You’ll be amazed at how freeing this is.
If you’re happy with you, then who cares about the others. In the words of Whoopi Goldberg, “If not for me, for who.”
