Make fitness a priority (read all 16 entries…)
Ran tonight

Kind of depressed about this goal, but that isn’t helping it get any better. At least I went tonight. I will be out of town for the weekend and realistically, I won’t do any workouts. But maybe I’ll bring clothes in case. My running buddy and I are going again next week twice.

Do you connect fitness with health

or with a certain change in your body?

My best years of fitness (now) have come only after I stopped working out to achieve some sort of body thing (slimmer this, toned up that, etc.) and said, “I am going to run because it’s good for me.” It gave me a certain kind of freedom to accept the way my body was. Before I had worked out regularly, I would get down on myself, like “this is jiggly. if I worked out, it probably wouldn’t be.” Now I DO work out, and so if something is jiggly, I think, “Ok. That’s just the way it is…I am working out and healthy and that’s the most important thing.”

Of course, working out is most rewarding when there are physical changes, but I try to remind myself that I work out primarily for good health. Visible changes are frosting.
