gottawonder Loves her tortoise!

It is esthetically

very pretty, and I like seeing it in movies. I loved “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” for the esthetic appeal.

I like the clothes, the tailored suits and jackets, the hats and monacles. I also am a sucker for the machines, and anything with lots of brass knobs, steam coming out of it, and gears and pistons everywhere.

I don’t collect anything steampunk, but it makes for some cool movies.

Victorian interiors

not the really busy, fussy, knick-knack riddled home interiors, but offices & private studies & libraries can be great looking. Lots of brass, leather, real wood. Scientific instruments, globes & maps…cool.

Scenes from movies from Jules Verne stories, HG Wells, and, yes, like “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,” too. Great clothes, too.

I'm trying to incorporate

a few Victorian/steampunk touches into my everyday wardrobe…

Steampunk!

I have several friends who are very into that. They go to cons all decked out in their fancy hats with goggles, corsets, vests, crazy contraptions…

I’ve been trying to get a grasp on it myself. I know what it looks like, and that to make something look steampunk, a lot of gears and brassy looking things are used – plus Victorian style clothing, gizmos, and gadgets… I have a friend who is opening (or maybe has opened) a steampunk themed novelty shop, and asked me for some art to sell. I didn’t really have much, although some of my paintings included tiny hats, so I gave him those. lol

I really like the look, although I don’t use it for myself. It’s really fun though. One of my favorite online comics is Girl Genius. :)

PS A friend brought me this yesterday

My friend made this for me. I’m going to a live action role play game over the weekend, and I asked him to make me a steam-punk inspired pole-arm. It’s supposed to look like it is made from pieces of a giant clock. :)

No steam, but this just reminded me of it…

but goggles

also need be worn when motoring or flying in open cockpit land & air vehicles, surely!

Brass gears, as with brass hardware, trim, etc., is always in fine taste, indeed!

Yes

Upcoming kitchen project with gf and I is to take one of those countertop sized theatre-style popcorn poppers and refit it in copper and some gears/tubes/gadgets/etc.

Threetimesthree Snowy Day at Home...

Never heard of the genre, so thank you for teaching me something new (just wikied it)!

I like shabby chic decor and Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow… not quite steampunk, though :P

oncekel has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
