In my profession

I feel like people just want to be heard. If it’s a parent about their child, a child about their weekend, a teacher about their class, etc. and on and on.
We all just want to be heard. Without anything added.

I've often been struck by the very same thought

Sometimes people have come to me and just aired their grievances. At the end they’ve said thank you (and have genuinely meant it), and yet all I have done is listen. On these occasions I’ve neither been asked for, or have given, some kind of profound advice! I realised the very thing they needed was someone just to take the time to actively listen. I now try and be open to provide this. Sometimes all people need is a couple of minutes.

Sometimes I think it’s all we need sometimes and I hope, I hope, that I am someone people feel they can talk to and feel like we can have that exchange in a positive way. I think it can be healing at times.
