make a difference
A life lesson

In November 2005, I moved in with a young man with a few disabilities. He was scared, insecure and terribly unaware of his own abilities, skills and capacities. He would never stay alone/unsupervised. He knew no other way to live. He had never been left unsupervised for 24 years.

Today, Just over two months after, he is a changed person, capable of doing several things on his own, capable of staying unsupervised for hours and capable of making his own decisions in life.

Today he decided to be independent. He decided to get a job. He decided to never go back home to live with his parents again.

This man now knows what he wants, and although he still has a long road ahead, knowing that he can do it makes a BIG difference. I am proud to say that I’ve played a major role in his desicion.

I am proud of him. I feel proud for making a difference. I feel proud of myself.

Definitely

I must confess that in the beginning I felt like it was hopeless to stay here and try. He is not related to me and I didn’t/don’t need to live here. I felt I was living with a master while I was a servant.

But after weeks of patience and tolerance I started to collect the fruits of my work. Add a couple of months and now it’s soooo worth it. I now feel like a live with a friend. I feel like he does care for me and not only for himself. Part of me wants to stay here for longer than planned and help him grow even more. He’s changed me forever.

u go

I must commend u on a job well done!!! You absolutely have every right to be proud…keep up the good work !!

So Proud!

I’m oh so proud of you honey. I know that he is very happy you came into his life. If everyone contributed to society the way you do the world would definitly be a better place.
