I kind of get the impression that the US is more into this Royal Wedding than we are in the UK. To me it just feels like the Tories have asked the monarchy to pull a Plebdazzle Party out of the bag to distract us from the fact that they are screwing the nation over and handing the wealth to the people who least need it. I might be missing something because I don’t watch TV or read tabloid newspapers but most people here seem to be either ignoring it or deliberately doing something unweddingly. I am going to an unwedding tea party – an arts event at the town hall.

My mother will be watching it, so it depends how long it goes. If it’s on, there’s little avoiding it, as it will be watched inthe living room on a school morning. My cousin will be watching it with a gaggle of other ladies in their wedding dresses! Cheers to that! I did watch Charles & Diana’s all those years ago.My mothers idea.

As a guy, and an American, I have no real interest in the wedding, other than the fact that Kate Middleton is gorgeous.

April 30 is our national Queen’s Day with the traditional night of partying before that. On Queen’s Day everyone goes out into the streets and sells their old stuff to each other. Seriously. It is called the vrijmarkt (freemarket).

On April 29 I will be working. In the evening there will be fireworks in Amsterdam West which I will be watching from my living room windows because I live on the 6th floor (7th if you’re American) and can see them from here. I would love to go to the water and see them closer up but we can’t leave the kiddies alone at home.

I hope William and Kate have a great life. The same goes for everyone in the UK. And elsewhere.
