Have a baby (read all 133 entries…)
Can you call it paranoia if they really are out to get you?

In my parenting class this weekend, we learned (among many other useful things) that expectant mothers tend to be hypervigilant. With good biological reason – we have a little person to protect, after all.

Which is what R is chalking these preparations and weather monitoring up to today. The local rivers are flooding; we’ve already received a “prepare to evacuate” message from the apartment office, and they’re sandbagging around the drainage canal behind my apartment.

While they’re not calling for any more flooding than we had a couple of days ago, I’ve also never seen them sandbag before. So I’ve packed bags, made arrangements in case we have to evacuate, and am keeping an eye on things.

Interestingly enough, I’m finding better info on Twitter than on traditional broadcast media. Behold the power of social networking!

R scoffs at my preparation. Which I don’t understand; there is a real threat, and it’s not like I’m a gibbering mess – I’m just covering my bases.

I guess what it comes down to is this: the baby isn’t in his belly.
