I just purchased 5 tomato plants and 1 aloe vera plant yesterday. I plan on doing a photo journal of my progress with taking care of these plants.

I purchased these on 051311. They are sitting on my dining room table with the other plants I purchased yesterday. My dining room table is where I get the most sunlight in my apartment.

The leaves of the plants were overlapping and touching each other. I did not want them crowded and touching each other.

I used to raise aloe vera plants. I am also into healthy raw foods. I would like to start adding an aloe vera leaf to my green smoothies. Aloes are easy to take care of as long as you don’t over water them. They are happy if you water them once a week.

I wiped down both sides of the leaves with a damp paper towel as far down I could get without moving the leaves.

The paper towel, that I used to wipe down the leaves, became quite soiled.

Ash with her favorite leaf.

She bit the end off her favorite leaf and licked the juice. It is healthy for humans so it should be healthy for cats too.

I would check ASAP with your vet, some websites/ASPCA say it’s poisonous for cats.
I would check all your new/old plants on the website or with your vet.
I don’t want your cat to get sick/ill.
Please check, I’m worried about your cat.

Thanks for the heads up! I looked it up on http://www.aspca.org/Pet-care/poison-control/Plants.aspx. All of my plants are considered toxic to cats. I could not pay the fees for a consultation there, so I called my vet.
Ash has been nibbling on the aloe every day since I got it and has not had any problems. I have not let her put her mouth on the tomato or onion plants. I’m not going to let her put her mouth on the Aloe any more.
Thanks again!
The vet returned my call and said that the sap from Aloe can cause diarrhea. Swallowing the edges can cause internal scratching and damage. She did not swallow the piece she bit off, she just chewed on it. There has been no evidence of stomach problems or diarrhea.

This plant does not seem to be in the best health but it does seem to have healthy blossoms on it. I purchased the small 4 pack in case this plant does not survive long enough to give me tomatoes.

I gave each of my plants TLC and re-arranged them.

Today 5/16/11, I added an onion to the mix.
Sophie Getting organized
I had an onion that sprouted. It had a few roots on it. The green onion portion is not in good condition. I put the roots in a shallow dish of water in hopes of reviving the onion.

My collection is growing quickly. I need to slow down to make sure I can maintain them all.
