Made the worm bin

Here are the plans I followed to construct the worm bin:

http://www.seattle.gov/util/groups/public/@spu/@csb/documents/webcontent/spu01_001991.pdf

It was very simple. I asked the worker at the hardware store to do all the cuts for me, expecting to pay 25 cents per cut, but he gave them to me for free. After that, I only needed a screwdriver and a few other non-power tools. It took one afternoon/evening.

Just need worms and some junk to go in there. The chickens produce lots of “junk” (and so do we, in the form of table scraps and yard clippings).

if you need worms

We’ve got plenty.

I recommend that you take on the painting of your worm bin as a family project. The bin will last longer if you paint it.

We’ve on our third worm bin. Emma helped me paint the last two. They both had a leaf-and-worm motif. The previous box had aspen leaves; this one, which we’ve had a very long time now, has a vine maple leaves sponge painted on the top.

Good idea!

That’s a great idea! Make the worm bin last longer and have a fun family activity. My sons decorated our first chicken coop but the decorations washed off.
