Disney Twisted Princesses

What do you think of this? This artist drew the Disney princesses, but “twisted” – in other words, creepy and scary. The picture above is his interpretation of the Little Mermaid.

One of my friends said he wished he could “un-see” one particular drawing because it was so creepy, but I think they’re all awesome. My favorite is Snow White.

Ha! Awesome!

I picked Snow White as my favorite, before I even saw that you had picked the same!

I love how they all still have their little animal friends. lol And, Ariel has a fork hand, to brush her hair! :)

thought the fork

was for eating… ;)

In the movie

she brushes her hair with the fork, because her seagull friend tells her that’s what it’s for…

but she's evil now

and can eat the bumble bee tuna and the dude, if she so chooses.

lol

“bumble bee tuna” hehe :)

Love it!

My favourite was Sleeping Beauty

She’s the one who my friend wished he could “un-see” because of the way her eyes are sewn shut. I think the owl behind her is creepier than the eyes, but it’s still a cool picture.

bermudamohawk it's time for change.

I had to look away

Disney villains creep me out enough, let alone these dark-side versions of the good guys!

Jane

Yes, Snow was fabulous. And Cinderella was inspired. I have to say that the one that I was particularly enchanted with was Jane.

I like creative things like this. They’re great for adults like us, but I wouldn’t want to inspire nightmares in little kiddies with them. That being said the Grimm’s Fairy Tales are dark and twisted enough as is to scare kids.

Grimm's Fairy Tales

were never meant for children.

Most of the original fairy tales were meant for adults. That’s why they were so twisted and scary. They were like horror stories.

Fairies back then weren’t really like Tinker Bell, they had a dark side to them. They were often dangerous, tricky, and unpredictable. They weren’t really all that nice.

Grimm’s Fairy Tales is actually a collection of folk tales that are ancient. No one really wrote them, they evolved. They are hundreds of years old. One person just took the oral tradition and put it into print for the first time.

These would be the stories people told around the fire at night to entertain each other, and to scare the crap out of themselves.

They just got watered down for the kids because Disney could take the best stories in the world and make them into children’s stories, and not have to pay royalties to anyone because the fairy tales aren’t copywrited.

Anyone can rewrite them any time they want without paying anyone. That’s why people keep remaking Robin Hood and the Three Musketeers movies, they are too old to have copyrights.

Oh yuck.

Interesting idea for sure- but I’m still too much stuck in my 6- year old self to appreciate this art. I love my princesses good. :)

Yeah, this certainly isn’t for everyone. I’ve never had much interest in the princess movies (or any Disney movies actually), so these alternative characters grabbed my attention.

Thanks for sharing them- my sister (and polar opposite) will love seeing them- I’ll show her next time I see her. :)

The Disney princesses are always so full of goodness and virtue that they are boring. They often seem sort of powerless and watered down, predictable and conformist.

These girls are out to get you, they seem menacing, threatening, but I am drawn to their power. They seem in control, strong, dangerous. Not like those poor Disney victims.

The bad girls are all sexuality, voodoo, and total rebels. They mock the stepford wife models the original princesses are.

The originals are all about being good girls, doing the right thing, being virtuous, playing by the rules etc. The dark ones are about sex, about power, about being predators, not prey.

I love them.

If they re-did the movies, these girls wouldn’t be jumping through a million hoops to get their Prince, or running away from evil queens. Oh no. Alice in Wonderland would just tear the heart right out of that queen, and feed it to the Cheshire cat. No mincing and bowing for Alice. Belle wouldn’t even want her beast any other way. She’d dig right into all that fur and fangs, and love every minute of it. The dark princesses would just go get what they wanted, spells and witches be damned.

Pocahontas

This depiction could be closer to real life as she was never a fairytail to start with.
