I thought it would be kind of cool to learn to hula hoop this summer. I made a weighted hoop with garden pipe that I filled with grit, and it’s pretty good, but it’s not the most comfortable. My mother also bought a padded foam hoop that I’m using while I’m living at home (sometimes both at once! I can’t do that for long, though). For a start I only really wanted to be able to spin it on my waist, but now I’ve cracked that (I just hooped for a solid 20 minutes without dropping it), and I can also move around while hooping fairly easily, speed up, slow down… Now I want to learn more! I’d like to be able to change the direction I hoop in without dropping it (I can do it in both directions, but only if I start it from stationary), get better at spinning two at once, and so on. Practice and internet tutorials seem to be the way to go! It’s really good fun.
hoop!
