I found out or maybe it was that I realized

some things about my Dad this week. I have been getting my Mom’s house ready to rent out and having to go through all the rooms sorting tossing etc.

I was in my Mom’s office closet where I thought there was only just a million tons of Christmas stuff which I was going to haul to Goodwill, but deep in the darkest recesses of the closet I found some of my Fathers things. They were all his medals that he earned in WWII and several framed awards and certificates. I didn’t realize it, but from these certificates I discovered that my Dad was a turrett gunner in WWII. He has some pretty impressive medals as a result.

He has a pretty awesome looking certificate for having flown over the Artic Circle during the Korean War and a certificate to “The Lucky Bastards Club” which acknowledges that he flew and returned from 42 missions during WWII.

The hippiechick in me doesn’t condone war and yet I find that I am inpressed with my Father’s accomplishments. He was clearly a brave man and survived some pretty hard circumstances.
