Practice Yoga (read all 12 entries…)
Yoga: Day 4

Option used: “Ultimate Power Yoga (with Rodney Yee)”

Effort required:6/10

When: Late morning

Total time: 35 minutes

How I felt before: Committing to 20 minutes was fairly easy but I kept trying to find an excuse not to do the full 35 minutes.

How I felt during: Like yesterday I did the Strengthening Sun Salutations and the Sculpting Standing Poses, and like yesterday I had to convince myself to do the latter – these sun salutations are rather brutal. Overall, I’d say I found the whole thing to be 10% easier than yesterday – slight progress but progress nonetheless.

How I felt after: Tired but happy I decided to do the full 35 minutes

Lessons: 1) Remember to wear a headband 2) Have some water ready – I had to stop and have a few sips after the sun salutations and 3) turn the phone off – I got a text message 15 minutes before the end, just had to read it (of course) and then couldn’t give the poses my full attention.

"The full 35 minutes"

... I used to think that hour-and-a-half yoga practices were pretty darn long… I guess it’s all a matter of perspective. :-) What inspired you to take on your 67-day challenge? And why 67 and not 69 or 30 or 21? Just curious. Congratulations on your continued exploration of yoga and meditation and it’s fun to read your observations and think back to how I felt too back when I started.

What happened was

I turned 30 and realized that I’ve been making the same resolutions for 10+ years and haven’t quite achieved any of them, so I’m just trying to make up for the lost time. 67 days is because empirical research has shown that it takes, on average, 66 days to adopt a habit and I need one more day to plan, so that’s 67. Starting to find that writing about doing stuff takes as much as actually doing it, so may have to find a way to be more concise :) Thanks for cheering me on!
