Be more "Arizona" (read all 2 entries…)
Summer

Its easier to be relaxed and less aggressive and less time/schedule-driven in the summer. It feels good. I feel like a more decent and tolerable person… not so anxious to beep my horn at the driver in front of me and not willing to complain about the cashier taking forever with the customer ahead of me. I hope that I can continue this once things get really busy.

Not crossing against lights

is the Portland skill that I am trying to develop. In New York it was considered naive and childish to actually wait for the walk signal, even if you did wait for the red light. Here everyone is so laid back about crossing, but it’s hard to wait sometimes, even if I’m not the least bit in a hurry. If I’m rushing to catch a train, I instantly snap back to New York skills, but I’m fine with that part.

What an interesting goal!

I guess it is on people who travel much that they must learn how to blend with their new locality, or at least learn how to not clash with it. I never thought before about intentionally taking on the traits “natural” to an area.

Arizona is so well-known for its art, that is the first thing that springs to mind when I saw this goal title. I’ll be interested to see how you interpret this goal in your life!

I was a young child in Texas. I remember the prejudice I brought with me when I moved to Washington State. I had a hard time learning to appreciate local art and culture. When I moved back to Texas as a young adult I was shocked to see how much I had absorbed unconsciously, and how much I absolutely did NOT fit any longer into the “Texan” mold. I returned to Washington with a deep love and a sense of being truly “home”. I celebrate the idiosyncrasies of this area now, and it brings me a lot of joy to know I do have someplace that feels like home to me.

I wish you luck in building that same sense of connection wherever you are!
